BoB was built with the financial assistance of the NSF Major Research Initiative program (DMR 00 79647).

The grant was awarded to construct a large cluster of commodity PCs for use in research computing. The research programs span a broad range of disciplines and include groups in the areas of theoretical condensed matter physics, theoretical physical and organic chemistry, theoretical and computational chemical engineering, and theoretical astrophysics. Within these areas, both method development and applications are being pursued.
